Composites
Assignment:
The assignment for this week is to design a 3D mold and make a fiber composite part in it.
Design:
I used TinkerCad for my 3D design to make the mold. I designed a happy face with width 300ml and height 300 ml and fillet the eyes and the lips of my happy face. After completing the design I converted to STL so that the ARTCAM in which the CNC can read the code.
Using the ARTCAM we convert the STL to NC.

Milling:
Using the CNC machine we cut the wood to create the mold design.
Composite:
1) Avoid Contact with skin eyes, wear gloves.
2) Do not mix the components of the crystal resin with the components of the glazing resin.
3) resins are not approved for food contact.
4) Do not ecxeed 150ml of crystal resin preparation per mix.

Material needed for the mold:
1) Jute
2) plastic wrap
3) resin A and B
4) Cotton sheet
5) measuring cup
6) vacuum bag
The mold will be covered with a plastic wrap very tightly so no air can enter.
The mold wrapped by plastic and preparing to use the resin
I apply 2:1 ratio of resin in which we used 4 cup of A and 2 cup of B and apply it on the the cotton then the jute (two layer) and another cotton layer. After that I insert the composite in the vacuum bag and then I used the vacuum cleaner to suck the air in the bag.
Then I waited for a day till the composite dry in the plastic bag.
The Result:
My fiber composite finally completed.
Video shows how hard the composite turned to be when I touch it or beat it..
